Your lock cylinder/barrel is working perfectly, but the central drive gear inside the multi-point lock mechanism has sheared or snapped. This is a classic symptom of a dropped door. Heavy uPVC and composite doors naturally sag by a few millimetres over time or shift during seasonal weather changes. The locking hooks are violently grinding against the metal frame because they are misaligned. Forcing the handle will eventually snap your internal gearbox and lock you out. Your lock and internal gearbox are completely healthy. The issue is purely positional—the locking bolts or hooks are hitting the metal strike plates on the frame, pinching the mechanism and stopping the key from turning. This is an easy alignment issue. We simply adjust and file the frame keeps by a fraction of a millimetre to ensure the locking points slide into their slots perfectly smoothly when the door is shut.

If the door is shut, it is usually caused by the door dropping and putting intense pressure on the lock bolt. If the door is wide open, the internal pins or the central cam inside your lock barrel have collapsed or worn out. We can rapidly extract the stuck key safely without damaging your door. We will then swap out the tired barrel for a premium, British Standard anti-snap cylinder to restore flawless operation and keep your home insurance valid.

The internal pins inside the cylinder have become misaligned, or someone has accidentally left a key turned slightly on the inside of the door, blocking the clutch mechanism from engaging. If there is a key stuck on the inside, we can cleanly bypass it using non-destructive techniques. If the lock barrel has failed internally, we can install a clean replacement lock on the spot and hand you a fresh set of smooth-turning keys.

Lock snapping is a quiet, rapid entry method used by intruders that targets standard, budget lock cylinders found in most older uPVC and composite doors. If your lock sticks out from the handle by even a few millimetres, it is vulnerable. We can inspect your handles instantly. If your locks aren't protected, we upgrade them to TS007 3-Star British Standard anti-snap cylinders. These locks feature built-in snap-secure barrier lines that completely lock out intruders if an attack is attempted.

Heavy composite and uPVC doors weigh a ton. Over time, natural house settling, frequent slamming, or seasonal weather changes cause the door to drop by just a few millimetres. This causes the bottom of the door to violently drag or scrape across the frame or your carpet, making it incredibly difficult to open or close. Please do not trim or plane down your expensive door! The internal window mechanism (called an espagnolette bolt or "espag") has jammed up or snapped internally. The spindle inside your handle is turning, but it cannot push the locking shoots out of the frame keeps.
